"Looking at 2020 with 20/20 Vision"

Winding down this year is a relief for everyone but what have you learned this year?
Better yet, what might God want you to remember?
That is what we are focusing on today.

Merry Christmas! Today was a special Christmas celebration day.

This audio is of only the sermon from today's service. The video of our Christmas Pageant and Service can be accessed here at Facebook Live - https://www.facebook.com/pg/calvaryhastingsmn/

At 10am we started out with a Christmas Pageant with our Discoveryland kids participating. After our church service we enjoyed our annual Christmas Smorgasbord! Then we had some fun time with a white elephant gift exchange. After that we were off to the senior's residence next door to sing Christmas Carols. Last but certainly not least we topped it all off by returning here for dessert. It was a wonderful day of celebration!

Welcome to Calvary Church on this third Sunday of Advent.

Last week we looked at Mary's song and her reaction when she was told of her place in history as the mother of the Messiah. Her response, "Whatever it takes, Lord I am yours" is an example of how we are to respond to anything that God sets before us. Today we are looking at a 2nd song of Christmas. Possible it is a song from a man you have never paid much attention to in the Christmas Story.

December 6th, 2020

Welcome to Calvary Church on this second Sunday of Advent. When you observe the characters surrounding the Christmas event each one has their own story, their own song. Today we are looking at Mary's story, Mary's song. In what ways was she like you and me? How did God use her?

"Spiritual Wisdom and Understanding"

It is possible to have wisdom which is beyond your own education and I.Q.? It is wisdom which God promises everyone who is seeking Him and desiring His agenda for their life and the world.

Ask yourself:
1. Where do I need wisdom right now?
2. Is there room in my mind for God to change my thinking?

October 18th, 2020

Today we are beginning our series in Colossians. Paul wrote different letters to different churches. Some have similar instruction and are also specific to that church community. I challenge you to read the book of Colossians each day and you will get more out of these Sunday messages.

October 11th, 2020

Today we wrapped up the series from the book of Ephesians.
Paul ties it all together by encouraging the believers to pray.
Simple. Easy.
Think about prayer and ask yourself these questions:
1. Why do I pray?
2. What do I expect to happen when I pray?
3. What do I usually pray about?
4. Would it make a difference if I prayed more?

Ephesians 5:21 says, "Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ".
What does this mean?
In our world of independence we are still called to submit to one another.
Your level of submission is a measure of your understanding of humility.

During this troubling time that we are going through people are asking some serious questions, like are these the signs of the times? These questions do have Biblical answers. The Bible consists of different types of writing, there's history, there's instruction of living God's way, and there's all kinds of other types of writings that are in our Bible. One of these is prophesy, and that's what Pastor Randy talks about today.

How can God be the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all at the same time? Youth Pastor Justin Knapp's sermon will deal with that incredible question.

We are concluding this series on Prayer today. Our aim has been to learn more about prayer in order that we may pray more - more consistently, more honestly, more boldly, more expectantly, and more regularly. What it boils down to is how tight our relationship is to God. You talk to those you know the best. As we grow closer to God we talk to Him more, which is good because after all... prayer is simply talking with God.
Keep talkin'.

"Praying to *Live, *Walk, and *Serve God's Way"

If you are ever at a loss of how to pray, use these 3 words to give you focus. Today we will expand on each one so that by incorporating them into your life you will experience God's work in you and how you fit into His bigger agenda.

"Prayer and Temptation"

We all face temptation but how does God want to work with us as we battle against it? What is your most frequent battle? Are you turning to God when it confronts you?

"Knowing God As Father"

The way you pray is directly tied to your relationship with God. If you see Him as distant and uninvolved in your life, then your prayers will be formal and lifeless. But if you truly know God as a loving Father who wants the very best for His children, your prayers will be more like a conversation with your dad. So what helps and hinders you in knowing God as Father?

At 27:47 we watched the Michael W. Smith video "I'll Lead You Home". Here is the link for that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgnLfY0t3Mc

February 16th, 2020

Today Youth Pastor Justin Knapp is delivering the sermon, looking at the trinity. "We will explore the internal relationship between the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, and we will attempt to apply that inner relationship to our lives." During today's sermon we watched a video starting at the 26 minute and 23 second mark. We didn't watch this entire video, just from 13:16 to 25:38. You may enjoy watching the entire thing later. https://youtu.be/vsMydMDi3rI

"Barriers To Prayer - 5 Steps to Praying Regularly"

I hope you are part of our 21 Days of Prayer. We are learning how to pray more honestly and specifically. Today I want to ask you how regular you are in taking time for prayer? You can define it however you choose because only you and God know when and how you communicate together. Today I want to give you a guideline you can use which can help you pray more regularly. Remember, when regular people pray more regularly, God will do IRREGULAR things on a regular basis.

February 2nd, 2020

"Barriers To Prayer" We continue on this series on prayer, looking into some of the other barriers that hinder our prayer. Today the barrier of sin, the barrier of silence, and the barrier of self are discussed. As a group we are going to take the next 21 days and concentrate on prayer. We can all literally be on the same page as we each read the devotional of the day in the "21 Days of BREAKTHROUGH Prayer" book, of which we have purchased 50 copies. Take one for free and use it. You could also buy it locally or online at many booksellers. We then encourage you to share what you are learning by asking questions or sharing insights on the Calvary Facebook page. Most of all let's kick it up a notch when it comes to our personal prayer. Let's see what God does, how He comes through, and how He answers in specific ways.

January 2020

January 26th, 2020

"Barriers To Prayer" As we continue on this series on prayer, we are going to look into some of the barriers that hinder our prayer. The first one has to do with our ability to see God as a loving Father when our earthly father was not so good. Think about how your relationship with your father is or was. Now think about how that transfers to your image of God as a heavenly father.

January 19th, 2020

Gordon Gathright is today's guest pastor, as Pastor Randy and many of our church members enjoy their time away at our Winter Retreat at Trout Lake Camp.

Today Gordon speaks of The Serenity Prayer: God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change... Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, accepting hardship as the pathway to peace. Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it. Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will. That I may be reasonably happy in this life, and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen.

January 12th, 2020

"It's Time To Pray" - today we are beginning a series on prayer. It's not catchy, trendy, or exciting but of utmost importance. We all know we are supposed to pray, but do we? Do we pray enough? Do we pray for the right things? How do we know if our prayers are answered? If the disciples of Jesus who spent 3 years with Jesus 24/7 didn't know how to pray, then what about you and me? Over the next month I want to deal with a number of questions you may have about prayer. If you have a question, write it down on a card and give it to me. We are also planning on some special times to gather and pray during the week. Stop in between 12 and 1 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, just to stop, be silent before the Lord and spend time with Him.

After today's sermon listen to Gary talk about what the guys discussed at yesterday's Men's breakfast.
